SOCIO-CULTURAL IMPACTS OF TOURISM
Socio-cultural tourism impacts refer to the way in which tourism impacts upon the community in which it operates in; this includes how it can change community and individual values, ways of life, behavior, community structure, culture, lifestyle or overall quality of life. (Hall, 2007; Murphy, 1985, as cited in Brunt & Courtney, 1999; Yildiz, Celik & Ozcan, 2011). These socio-cultural impacts can affect not only the locals of the area, but also the tourists, and can have both positive and negative impacts, some of these positive and negative impacts can include:

AUTHENTICITY
Authenticity can be described as 'genuine,' 'of undisputed origin' and 'traditional'and is determined by the originality of the site or object, its structures and social context (Barthel, 1996, as cited in Rickly-Boyd, 2012; Taylor, 2001).
Authenticity is often seen as a key motivator for tourists with an interest in culture (Hall, 2007) and often helps in the preservation and continuation of a culture. Destinations can utilise authentic experiences that they can offer, as authenticity is often a key element of making an experience memorable (Wang, 1999, as cited in Rickly-Boyd, 2012).

example
Having lived my entire life, reasonably close to Phillip Island, I have experienced the tourism boom the destination has experienced over the years. While tourism to the Island has rarely affected me, it has help to develop a wide range of infrastructure in the area such as the main highway to and from the Island. This development has seen the building of a duel highway that has resulted in reduced travel times for accessing not just Phillip Island, but other places in the area.
